A 75-year-old Ari­ma man died when he was crushed by his van af­ter an ac­ci­dent out­side his home on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Po­lice said Charles Mon­roe got out of his white Hyundai H100 van at around 12.18 pm to open the gate to his Per­reira Lane, Tumpuna Road, home when he no­ticed the van rolling along the road.

He ran to the van and tried to get con­trol, but was pinned against a wall at the side of the road.

Rel­a­tives heard the com­mo­tion and on check­ing freed him.

Po­lice were called in with a dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer who de­clared Mon­roe dead at the scene.

Of­fi­cers of the North­ern Di­vi­sion Crime Scene In­ves­ti­ga­tions (CSI) unit al­so vis­it­ed the scene.
