A Princes Town pen­sion­er man­aged to fight off a bur­glar who tried to rape her in her home last Fri­day, but she was beat­en and robbed dur­ing the or­deal.

The 69-year-old woman was on her bed around 10.30 pm, when she heard a bang­ing on her front door.

She shout­ed, hop­ing the in­trud­er would be scared, but a man replied, “open up, is me.”

The bang­ing in­ten­si­fied, fol­lowed by a crash­ing sound, and the vic­tim bar­ri­cad­ed her bed­room door while scream­ing for help.

The in­trud­er, who was not known to her, then forced open her door. He at­tacked the woman, chok­ing and beat­ing her, while strip­ping off her clothes. The sus­pect un­dressed him­self and warned her not to scream while forc­ing her on the bed. While plead­ing with him to stop, she fought him by hit­ting him with ran­dom ob­jects, in­clud­ing a base­ball bat. Even­tu­al­ly, the ban­dit grabbed her $1,500 black Sam­sung A22 cell­phone and his cloth­ing and es­caped through the front door. The vic­tim went to the Princes Town Po­lice Sta­tion where she re­port­ed the at­tack and sought med­ical treat­ment at the health fa­cil­i­ty. Of­fi­cers of the Princes Town CID and Charge Room vis­it­ed the scene, but the sus­pect was not ap­pre­hend­ed. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
