A Princes Town pensioner managed to fight off a burglar who tried to rape her in her home last Friday, but she was beaten and robbed during the ordeal.
The 69-year-old woman was on her bed around 10.30 pm, when she heard a banging on her front door.
She shouted, hoping the intruder would be scared, but a man replied, “open up, is me.”
The banging intensified, followed by a crashing sound, and the victim barricaded her bedroom door while screaming for help.
The intruder, who was not known to her, then forced open her door. He attacked the woman, choking and beating her, while stripping off her clothes. The suspect undressed himself and warned her not to scream while forcing her on the bed. While pleading with him to stop, she fought him by hitting him with random objects, including a baseball bat. Eventually, the bandit grabbed her $1,500 black Samsung A22 cellphone and his clothing and escaped through the front door. The victim went to the Princes Town Police Station where she reported the attack and sought medical treatment at the health facility. Officers of the Princes Town CID and Charge Room visited the scene, but the suspect was not apprehended. Investigations are ongoing.
