A Morvant pensioner was chopped about the head and then stoned by a man known to him during an argument on Tuesday.
The 68-year-old victim, of William Avenue, Lady Young Road, Morvant, was reportedly assaulted around 9 am.
Reports indicate that the pensioner was standing on the roadway near his home when he was approached by the suspect, whom he knows. An argument reportedly ensued, during which the suspect pulled a cutlass concealed in a bag and chopped the victim several times about the head, causing him to fall to the ground.
As the victim lay bleeding, the suspect allegedly threw stones at him, injuring his left arm, before dropping the cutlass and fleeing the scene.
Nearby residents alerted the police, who responded and arranged for the victim to be taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope for treatment.
Officers also recovered the cutlass believed to have been used in the attack.
Police were continuing their search for the suspect yesterday.
