A Mor­vant pen­sion­er was chopped about the head and then stoned by a man known to him dur­ing an ar­gu­ment on Tues­day.

The 68-year-old vic­tim, of William Av­enue, La­dy Young Road, Mor­vant, was re­port­ed­ly as­sault­ed around 9 am.

Re­ports in­di­cate that the pen­sion­er was stand­ing on the road­way near his home when he was ap­proached by the sus­pect, whom he knows. An ar­gu­ment re­port­ed­ly en­sued, dur­ing which the sus­pect pulled a cut­lass con­cealed in a bag and chopped the vic­tim sev­er­al times about the head, caus­ing him to fall to the ground.

As the vic­tim lay bleed­ing, the sus­pect al­leged­ly threw stones at him, in­jur­ing his left arm, be­fore drop­ping the cut­lass and flee­ing the scene.

Near­by res­i­dents alert­ed the po­lice, who re­spond­ed and arranged for the vic­tim to be tak­en to the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex in Mt Hope for treat­ment.

Of­fi­cers al­so re­cov­ered the cut­lass be­lieved to have been used in the at­tack.

Po­lice were con­tin­u­ing their search for the sus­pect yes­ter­day.
