Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is out of the country until Wednesday to attend a funeral, with Works and Infrastructure Minister Jearlean John serving as Acting Prime Minister in her absence.
The information was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister shortly before her departure.
According to the statement, the Prime Minister is attending the funeral of a family member.
However, when Guardian Media sought further details, one Government minister said the Prime Minister did not disclose additional information about the relative.
This is the third occasion on which Minister John has acted as Prime Minister.
