The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) is advising customers in North Trinidad served by the Caroni Water Treatment Plant, who continue to experience a disruption in their service, that this is due to a leak along the 12-inch diameter offtake in the Piarco area.
WASA says the leak, which occurred in the vicinity of a newly installed valve during the shutdown of the Caroni Plant, resulted in the Caroni North transmission system being isolated, to safely conduct the necessary repairs.
The Authority’s crews engaged in carrying out repairs, which were expected to be completed by 11:00 pm last night.
“As such, customers along the Caroni North transmission/distribution system will experience a delay in the restoration of their service following the planned shutdown of the Caroni Plant.”
WASA says among the affected areas are:
● North Trinidad served by the Valsayn Booster Station A & B: St. Augustine; Champ Fleurs; Mt. Hope; Santa Cruz; San Juan; Bagatelle; Laventille Road, Febeau Village; Success Village, Laventille; Malick; Trou Macque.
● North Trinidad served by the El Socorro Booster Station: Barataria; St. Ann’s; Morvant; Cascade; East Dry River; Dibe, Long Circular; Port-of-Spain; St. James; St. Barb’s; Cocorite; Gonzales; Belmont.
The Authority is advising customers that following the competition of these repairs, the supply to most affected areas is expected to be restored over a 24- to 48-hour period, in accordance with established supply schedules.
“The amended water supply schedules to areas impacted by the planned shutdown,” WASA says, “will be available on the Authority’s website and social media pages.”
Affected customers can request water supplies from a truck borne service that is being provided. Requests can be made via:
