PM confirms May 23 Parliament opening

Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has con­firmed May 23 as the of­fi­cial date for open­ing the up­com­ing par­lia­men­tary term.

Ear­li­er to­day, Per­sad-Bisses­sar con­firmed with CNC3 News that she was tak­ing the date in­to ac­count; how­ev­er, no for­mal an­nounce­ment has been made.

The pro­posed date would mark the com­mence­ment of leg­isla­tive ac­tiv­i­ties fol­low­ing the April 28th gen­er­al elec­tion.

It is ex­pect­ed that the May 23rd date will al­low the ad­min­is­tra­tion suf­fi­cient time to fi­nalise cab­i­net ap­point­ments and out­line its leg­isla­tive agen­da for the term ahead.

On­ly re­cent­ly, the Of­fice of the Pres­i­dent re­leased the gazette no­tice out­lin­ing the sched­ule of du­ties for re­spec­tive gov­ern­ment min­is­ters.
