Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley will travel to Barbados today to attend the Forty-Eighth (48th) Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).
It will be his last CARICOM meeting as Prime Minister. When Prime Minister Rowley announced his impending retirement back in December he said he wanted to attend the meeting to hand over and complete matters involving several Caricom sub-committees, which he chairs including security and WI Cricket.
Barbados’ Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, will chair the meeting.
Rowley will be accompanied by Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Amery Browne. According to the OPM, discussions will cover key regional issues, including the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, Food and Nutrition Security, Climate Change and Finance, the ongoing crisis in Haiti, Security Issues, Digital Resilience, and External Relations. Maritime and Air Transport, as well as Reparations, will also be on the agenda.
Energy Minister and Prime Minister in-waiting Stuart Young will serve as Acting Prime Minister until Rowley returns.
