Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has extended greetings to the Roman Catholic community on the Feast of Corpus Christi challenging the nation to use the occasion to love each other again.

Dr Rowley said in a statement, “We live in a country, and a world in need of that selfless Love; an era, too, which cries out for the positive qualities of temperance, patience, respect, kindness, courtesy, and sincerity, to be shared as part of our daily lives.”

He went further in stating, “The events of our time call upon us to seek righteousness in our hearts, and beauty in our character, which could eventually be felt throughout our homes, spread through the nation-state of Trinidad and Tobago and added to world peace.”

The Feast of Corpus Christi is a Christian festival that celebrates the real presence of the body and blood of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist – the sacrament commemorating the Last Supper. It is held on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday and was first proposed by St Thomas Aquinas to create a feast solely focused on the Eucharist.

“It is my hope that Christians, absorbed today in reflection, meditation and prayer, may come to the realisation of that inner peace which they seek,” Dr Rowley said.
