Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley got a firsthand view yesterday of one of two field hospitals donated by the United States Government, as they were officially handed over to this country providing 80 beds to accommodate and treat COVID-19 patients.
In a statement issued Monday, the US Embassy said the donation of two field hospitals, valued at US$1.5 million, will provide the Ministry of Health with eighty additional hospital beds and help to reduce the current strain on the parallel healthcare system.
The release said the US Embassy expedited the delivery and setting up of the hospital at the request of the T&T government along with the assistance of the T&T Defence Force which erected one hospital in Couva and the second at the Jean Pierre Complex.
Chargé d’Affaires Shante Moore, the Prime Minister along with Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh toured the field hospital at the Jean Pierre Complex.
According to the statement from the US Embassy, Moore officially transferred ownership of the hospitals to this country and commended the Prime Minister on his ongoing efforts to deal with the pandemic, emphasising that “we must all work together to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
