Prime Minister Stuart Young has called for reflection, spiritual growth, and civility among citizens in his Good Friday message.
“This is Holy Week for the faithful Christians among us and the estimated 2.6 billion members of the Christian community across the globe,” he said.
“For centuries, this day has been revered as ‘Good Friday’—a solemn occasion marked by prayer, reflection, and remembrance.
“Christian teachings remind us that within the sorrow of the crucifixion lies a profound message of hope, renewal, and the promise of new beginnings, even in the face of life’s greatest challenges.”
Young added: “As Prime Minister, I extend heartfelt greetings to members of the Christian community on behalf of myself, my family, the Government, and all the citizens of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Identifying as a member of the Christian faith, he said: “I join with the Christian body to reflect on ‘The Passion of Christ,’ which lies at the heart of our belief.
“We meditate on His earthly life—marked by betrayal, trial, humiliation, torture, crucifixion, and death—followed by His glorious resurrection. This story is one of both divine purpose and deep human struggle.”
Young drew parallels between Christ’s life and modern struggles, as he faced betrayal, lies, and injustice, yet endured, “offering guidance on anger, integrity, love, peace, and truth.”
He added, “In our modern world—where Artificial Intelligence grows ever more present, where we face climate change, wars, and economic uncertainty—the message of Christ remains a beacon.
“The message of Christ calls us to a spiritual path founded on timeless values: honesty, compassion, humility, discipline, cooperation, tolerance, and justice.
“At the core of His teachings is an Ethic of Love—a boundless love that embraces every part of our human experience.
“It calls us to live with care, trust, responsibility, and respect for one another.”
Young urged citizens to “recommit to being more civil, more compassionate, and more respectful—regardless of our differences. Let that be your gift to yourself and to our beloved Trinidad and Tobago.”
