PNM to hold internal elections at end of June

The Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment has agreed to hold in­ter­nal par­ty elec­tions at the end of June, fol­low­ing a lead­er­ship meet­ing at the par­ty’s Bal­isi­er House, Port-of-Spain head­quar­ters to­day.

A state­ment by the par­ty said this was one of the mat­ters dis­cussed and that the par­ty’s lead­er­ship made rec­om­men­da­tions which will be pro­posed at a spe­cial gen­er­al coun­cil meet­ing on Fri­day for all Na­tion­al Ex­ec­u­tive po­si­tions to be con­test­ed.

The lead­er­ship will al­so pro­pose that the in­ter­nal elec­tions be open to all par­ty mem­bers in Trinidad and To­ba­go, us­ing the one man, one vote sys­tem.

The state­ment added: “As is cus­tom­ary, an Elec­tion Su­per­vi­so­ry Com­mit­tee be es­tab­lished by Gen­er­al Coun­cil to man­age the con­duct of the elec­tions, in­clud­ing the re­view and is­suance of the fi­nal elec­toral list, as well as the code of ethics for the In­ter­nal Elec­tion.”

The state­ment was signed by PNM chair­man Dr Nyan Gads­by-Dol­ly.
