Both the Peo­ple’s Na­tion­al Move­ment and the Op­po­si­tion Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress yes­ter­day ex­pressed sat­is­fac­tion with a Guardian Me­dia-com­mis­sioned poll, the re­sult of which was pub­lished on Sunday.

Two polls were con­duct­ed on be­half of GML by HHB and As­so­ciates Ltd and the re­sult of the first one was pub­lished Sun­day, show­ing the PNM was slight­ly ahead of the UNC in the race for the Au­gust 10 Gen­er­al Elec­tion.

The first part of the poll shows that 35 per cent of re­spon­dents sup­port the PNM and 29 per cent sup­port the UNC, while on­ly two per cent said they would vote for oth­er par­ties.

“How­ev­er, with two weeks to go be­fore vot­ers cast their bal­lots, 16 per cent of the re­spon­dents said they are still un­de­cid­ed and 11 per cent in­di­cat­ed they would not vote.

HHB and As­so­ciates man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Louis Bertrand said bassed on the poll re­sults, new po­lit­i­cal par­ties had not in­flu­enced the vot­ing pop­u­la­tion.
Con­tact­ed for com­ment on the re­sult of the poll on Sun­day, PNM deputy leader and Works and Trans­port Min­is­ter Ro­han Sinan said he was pleased with the poll re­sult.

“The poll shows that the PNM will win, and that’s how the par­ty feels,” Sinanan said in a short re­sponse.

UNC leader Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar was al­so hap­py at her par­ty’s per­for­mance.

“(The poll) says the PNM is bare­ly ahead. Let me tell you that this poll was done two weeks ago but if it was done now it would show a dif­fer­ent re­sult,” Per­sad-Bisses­sar said at a San Fer­nan­do West women’s lun­cheon at Achie­vors Ban­quet Hall, San Fer­nan­do.

“I have been to San Fer­nan­do West, La Hor­quet­ta, St Joseph, Moru­ga/Table­land, To­co and Tu­na­puna, the mar­gin­al and if that poll was done to­day the UNC would have been in front.

“The mar­gin of er­ror is plus four, mi­nus four. They didn’t poll To­ba­go. The poll is good for us, trend­ing in the right di­rec­tions and come elec­tion day the votes will be cast for the UNC to win that elec­tion.”
