Police arrest Belmont man with firearm and ammo

Po­lice ar­rest­ed a 47-year-old Bel­mont man af­ter they al­leged­ly found a loaded firearm and am­mu­ni­tion in his pos­ses­sion dur­ing an ear­ly morn­ing an­ti-crime ex­er­cise on Sun­day 1st June 2025.

Be­tween 5 am and 8 am, of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force went to Agos­ti­ni Trace, Gon­za­les, where they stopped and searched the sus­pect. Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the man was car­ry­ing a bag con­tain­ing a firearm loaded with a mag­a­zine of 11 rounds.

Of­fi­cers ar­rest­ed the sus­pect on the spot. The ex­er­cise was led by ACP Hazel, Su­per­in­ten­dent Ram­sook and ASP Singh.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent the night be­fore, of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion ar­rest­ed a 24-year-old Princes Town man for sev­er­al of­fences. Around 8 pm on Sat­ur­day 31st May 2025, po­lice held the man for:

Pos­ses­sion of a weapon

Three counts of ob­scene lan­guage

Three counts of dis­or­der­ly be­hav­iour

Re­sist­ing ar­rest

Two counts of in­sult­ing lan­guage

Threat­en­ing lan­guage

Es­cap­ing law­ful cus­tody

In­ves­ti­ga­tions in­to the in­ci­dent are on­go­ing.
