In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing in­to the al­leged rape of an 11-year-old stu­dent by a close male rel­a­tive, three years ago.

The Stan­dard Three pupil, who lives with her moth­er in Ch­agua­nas, on­ly told her par­ent of the in­ci­dent ear­li­er this week.

The girl told of­fi­cers as­signed to the Spe­cial Vic­tims Unit, Ch­agua­nas, that on a date un­known be­tween Sep­tem­ber 21 and 30, 2023, whilst stay­ing with the male rel­a­tive at a house in Ca­roni, he had sex with her.

The vic­tim re­port­ed go­ing in­to the rel­a­tive’s room to sleep, when he took off her clothes and had sex­u­al in­ter­course with her against her will.

Of­fi­cers in­ter­viewed the vic­tim in the pres­ence of her moth­er and are due to record a state­ment lat­er this week.

In ad­di­tion to in­ter­view­ing oth­er peo­ple, the vic­tim will have to un­der­go a med­ical ex­am­i­na­tion so a com­pre­hen­sive re­port can be com­piled. —An­na-Lisa Paul
