A police officer attached to the Port of Spain Guard Unit died in a road traffic accident along the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, around 12:30pm, the officer—so far only identified as Constable Gill—was driving his private vehicle and was heading north near the Couva exit, when he lost control of the car.
The vehicle crashed into an electricity pole, and the officer appeared to have died on impact.
Guardian Media understands that Constable Gill was assigned to the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
