Police officer, two women charged with multiple offenses

Three peo­ple, in­clud­ing a po­lice of­fi­cer was charged with traf­fick­ing a firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion and breach of cur­few.

They are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trate Court to­day.

The fol­low­ing is an of­fi­cial press re­lease from the Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice on the in­ci­dent.

“A Po­lice Of­fi­cer and two women have been charged by of­fi­cers of the South­ern Di­vi­sion.
PC Kai Pope-Cu­pid, 34, Kird­e­sha Thomp­son, 22, and Kaya Jones 20, were joint­ly charged for the of­fences – traf­fick­ing a firearm, pos­ses­sion of am­mu­ni­tion, and breach of cur­few. The charges were laid by PC May­nard.

Kaya Jones was al­so charged for dri­ving with­out a per­mit and a cer­tifi­cate of in­sur­ance, while Kai Pope-Cu­pid was ad­di­tion­al­ly charged with al­low­ing some­one else to dri­ve a ve­hi­cle, they not be­ing the hold­er of a dri­ver’s per­mit and in­sur­ance.

On Ju­ly 5th, 2021, the trio were ar­rest­ed af­ter be­ing stopped by of­fi­cers dur­ing the cur­few hours.

They were al­so found to be in pos­ses­sion of a firearm and 85 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion and a quan­ti­ty of jew­ellery.

They are ex­pect­ed to ap­pear be­fore the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trate Court to­day.”
