Police are trying to identify the decomposing body of a woman found in bushes near a primary school in Gasparillo on Wednesday. The woman was listed as a Jane Doe in the police report yesterday.
The report stated that around 5 pm, a man was cutting grass to feed his animals on the southern side of the VOS Government Primary School Recreation Ground, located along Charles Street South, when he detected a foul scent coming from the bushes.
He checked the area and discovered the decomposed body of a woman lying in the bushes.
Officers of the Gasparillo Police Station trekked approximately 110 feet into the bushes from the recreation ground, along the bank of the Guaracara River, where they found the body lying on its left side in an advanced state of decomposition. The woman was clad in a dark-coloured short dress.
Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the district medical officer could not determine whether the body bore any injuries or marks of violence.
Southern Division Crime Scene Investigators visited the scene, and Sgt Heeralal is leading the investigation.
