A pregnant woman was stabbed by her male companion during an argument at their apartment in Mt Lambert yesterday.
Police said around 8 am, neighbours claim they heard a commotion coming from their apartment at Mt Lambert Circular West.
A police officer residing in the apartment complex reported hearing a woman screaming for help and upon checking, he found the 31-year-old security officer repeatedly stabbing the victim about the body with a knife.
The suspect, it was claimed, is attached to the Customs and Excise Division at the Ministry of Finance.
As the police officer identified himself, the suspect reportedly pushed the victim out of the apartment before locking himself inside.
A party of officers from the Barataria Police Station arrived and took the victim to the nearby Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope, where she was treated and warded in a critical condition.
Officers at the scene later negotiated with the suspect and he eventually opened the door and surrendered peacefully before being taken into custody.
Officers of the Barataria Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Port-of-Spain Task Force visited the scene.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident at Wharf Trace, Maracas, St Joseph, around 11 pm on Thursday, a teenager was shot by an unknown gunman as he stood on the road near his home.
The 17-year-old was said to have been standing on the road, near Bobo Shop, when a single gunshot was heard.
Residents alerted the teenager’s parents and they rushed out to find him lying on the road. They later transported him to the EWMSC, where he was treated and warded in a critical condition.
