A preg­nant woman was stabbed by her male com­pan­ion dur­ing an ar­gu­ment at their apart­ment in Mt Lam­bert yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said around 8 am, neigh­bours claim they heard a com­mo­tion com­ing from their apart­ment at Mt Lam­bert Cir­cu­lar West.

A po­lice of­fi­cer re­sid­ing in the apart­ment com­plex re­port­ed hear­ing a woman scream­ing for help and up­on check­ing, he found the 31-year-old se­cu­ri­ty of­fi­cer re­peat­ed­ly stab­bing the vic­tim about the body with a knife.

The sus­pect, it was claimed, is at­tached to the Cus­toms and Ex­cise Di­vi­sion at the Min­istry of Fi­nance.

As the po­lice of­fi­cer iden­ti­fied him­self, the sus­pect re­port­ed­ly pushed the vic­tim out of the apart­ment be­fore lock­ing him­self in­side.

A par­ty of of­fi­cers from the Barataria Po­lice Sta­tion ar­rived and took the vic­tim to the near­by Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex (EWM­SC) in Mt Hope, where she was treat­ed and ward­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

Of­fi­cers at the scene lat­er ne­go­ti­at­ed with the sus­pect and he even­tu­al­ly opened the door and sur­ren­dered peace­ful­ly be­fore be­ing tak­en in­to cus­tody.

Of­fi­cers of the Barataria Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID) and the Port-of-Spain Task Force vis­it­ed the scene.

Mean­while, in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent at Wharf Trace, Mara­cas, St Joseph, around 11 pm on Thurs­day, a teenag­er was shot by an un­known gun­man as he stood on the road near his home.

The 17-year-old was said to have been stand­ing on the road, near Bobo Shop, when a sin­gle gun­shot was heard.

Res­i­dents alert­ed the teenag­er’s par­ents and they rushed out to find him ly­ing on the road. They lat­er trans­port­ed him to the EWM­SC, where he was treat­ed and ward­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion.
