President Christine Kangaloo has urged citizens to carry the spirit of Christmas into their daily lives. She made the comment as she reflected on the enduring themes of family, compassion and shared humanity in her Christmas Day message to the nation.
“I pray that peace and goodwill will guide our actions, enliven our spirits and lift up our hearts long after the season has passed,” Kangaloo said.
Kangaloo reminded the nation that the holiday is rooted in the family bond exemplified by the Holy Family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
She invited all to reflect on what unites us as one human family.
“In a world often marked by division, uncertainty and hardship, the message of Christmas speaks quietly, but powerfully: peace on earth and goodwill to all,” she said.
She encouraged citizens to choose compassion over anger, understanding over judgement, and reconciliation over resentment, highlighting that peace is more than the absence of conflict.
“It is the presence of justice, mercy and respect in homes, workplaces, and communities.”
President Kangaloo emphasised that goodwill is built through simple acts: listening with empathy, speaking with kindness, offering help to those in need and extending forgiveness.
“These small gestures, when multiplied, have the power to heal wounds, restore hope and build bridges where walls once stood,” she said.
The President also encouraged citizens to reach beyond their immediate circles.
“Let us open our hearts not only to those closest to us, but also to the stranger, the lonely and the forgotten,” she said, stressing that the true spirit of Christmas is realised when kindness and empathy extend beyond family and friends.
“My wish this Christmas is that we do not relegate the message of peace on earth and goodwill to merely a cherished ideal, but that we elevate it into a lived reality, shaping our choices and inspiring us to be instruments of peace and of goodwill wherever we are,” President Kangaloo said.
She also called on citizens to recommit themselves to acts of peace and kindness, urging that the light of goodwill shine brighter than darkness.
President Kangaloo and her husband also extended warmest wishes for a safe, happy and hopeful Christmas 2025.
