Pres­i­dent Chris­tine Kan­ga­loo has urged cit­i­zens to car­ry the spir­it of Christ­mas in­to their dai­ly lives. She made the com­ment as she re­flect­ed on the en­dur­ing themes of fam­i­ly, com­pas­sion and shared hu­man­i­ty in her Christ­mas Day mes­sage to the na­tion.

“I pray that peace and good­will will guide our ac­tions, en­liv­en our spir­its and lift up our hearts long af­ter the sea­son has passed,” Kan­ga­loo said.

Kan­ga­loo re­mind­ed the na­tion that the hol­i­day is root­ed in the fam­i­ly bond ex­em­pli­fied by the Holy Fam­i­ly – Je­sus, Mary and Joseph.

She in­vit­ed all to re­flect on what unites us as one hu­man fam­i­ly.

“In a world of­ten marked by di­vi­sion, un­cer­tain­ty and hard­ship, the mes­sage of Christ­mas speaks qui­et­ly, but pow­er­ful­ly: peace on earth and good­will to all,” she said.

She en­cour­aged cit­i­zens to choose com­pas­sion over anger, un­der­stand­ing over judge­ment, and rec­on­cil­i­a­tion over re­sent­ment, high­light­ing that peace is more than the ab­sence of con­flict.

“It is the pres­ence of jus­tice, mer­cy and re­spect in homes, work­places, and com­mu­ni­ties.”

Pres­i­dent Kan­ga­loo em­pha­sised that good­will is built through sim­ple acts: lis­ten­ing with em­pa­thy, speak­ing with kind­ness, of­fer­ing help to those in need and ex­tend­ing for­give­ness.

“These small ges­tures, when mul­ti­plied, have the pow­er to heal wounds, re­store hope and build bridges where walls once stood,” she said.

The Pres­i­dent al­so en­cour­aged cit­i­zens to reach be­yond their im­me­di­ate cir­cles.

“Let us open our hearts not on­ly to those clos­est to us, but al­so to the stranger, the lone­ly and the for­got­ten,” she said, stress­ing that the true spir­it of Christ­mas is re­alised when kind­ness and em­pa­thy ex­tend be­yond fam­i­ly and friends.

“My wish this Christ­mas is that we do not rel­e­gate the mes­sage of peace on earth and good­will to mere­ly a cher­ished ide­al, but that we el­e­vate it in­to a lived re­al­i­ty, shap­ing our choic­es and in­spir­ing us to be in­stru­ments of peace and of good­will wher­ev­er we are,” Pres­i­dent Kan­ga­loo said.

She al­so called on cit­i­zens to recom­mit them­selves to acts of peace and kind­ness, urg­ing that the light of good­will shine brighter than dark­ness.
