Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended congratulations to Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Philip Pierre after his Saint Lucia Labour Party retained its legislative majority in yesterday’s general election.
In a message posted on X, Persad-Bissessar said, “Congratulations to incumbent Prime Minister Philip Pierre @PhilipJPierreLC whose Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) has retained its legislative majority in today’s General Election. The people of Saint Lucia have spoken at the polls and I wish Prime Minister Pierre and his Government all the best in the future. May God continue to richly bless the people of Saint Lucia.”
Preliminary results reported by the St Vincent Times indicated that the SLP secured 14 seats in the 17 seat Parliament. Early data showed the party leading in most constituencies. The outlet reported that the SLP received 27,156 votes while the United Workers Party obtained 19,009. Two independent candidates also won their seats.
Saint Lucia is divided into 17 electoral districts.
