Police are continuing their search for a Venezuelan woman who was abducted from her La Romaine home three days ago.
The woman, identified only as Maria, was reportedly returning to her Hector Street apartment around 3.30 am on Sunday when she was confronted by two masked men. According to police, the men forced their way inside, where another 29-year-old Venezuelan woman was asleep.
The two women were tied up while the suspects searched the apartment and stole $8,000, an iPhone 13 Pro and a Samsung cellphone.
The men then reportedly took Maria and fled.
When Guardian Media visited the apartment, the door was locked. Two Venezuelan men who were at another apartment on the compound said they knew nothing about Maria or her whereabouts.
Several residents were unaware of the incident. However, they said the incident has raised concerns about safety in the normally quiet street and called for increased police patrols.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old businessman and his family were tied up and robbed by three gunmen at their Couva home early yesterday morning.
Police said the businessman and his 51-year-old wife were at their Southern Main Road home around 12:04 a.m. when their 28-year-old son arrived in a Nissan Almera.
The son was accosted by three masked gunmen and ordered inside the house.
While inside, his parents, who were in their bedroom, heard a commotion and came out to the living room.
The suspects ordered the couple back into their bedroom and tied their hands with plastic tie straps. The son was also restrained.
The assailants then ransacked the house and stole $5,500, two cellphones, an assortment of jewellery, bank cards and the car keys.
They escaped in a white car.
Couva police are investigating.
