The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) says it deployed additional buses and prioritised transportation for CSEC and CAPE students following the reduction in maxi taxi services yesterday.
In a media release, the PTSC said it responded immediately to the disruption by implementing an accelerated maintenance programme over the weekend to ensure additional buses were repaired, serviced and available for service from yesterday.
The corporation said extra buses were deployed from early yesterday, with priority given to high-demand corridors and areas where commuters were experiencing the greatest challenges accessing transportation.
“The corporation’s focus was to ensure that commuters travelling to work, school and other essential activities experienced the least possible inconvenience,” the PTSC said, adding passenger demand was significantly higher than on a normal weekday as members of the public sought alternative transportation options due to the maxi taxi protest.
It added that temporary operational adjustments, including additional trips and service enhancements on selected routes, were reviewed where operationally feasible.
The corporation said priority was given to transporting CSEC and CAPE students to support their timely access to examinations.
“PTSC remains committed to serving the public as effectively as possible and extends sincere thanks to all customers for their continued patience, understanding and support during this time.”
