Prisoner Rajaee Ali has been formally charged with possession of prohibited items following the discovery of contraband at the Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, last month.

The T&T Police Service confirmed yesterday that Ali was charged with possession of prohibited articles, in breach of Section 8(1)(f) of the Prison Service Act Chapter 13:01, as amended by Act 25 of 2019.

The charge stems from an incident on June 25, when Ali was allegedly found with a Samsung cellular phone, an unbranded SIM card, and a phone charger—items classified as prohibited without the express permission of the Commissioner of Prisons.

Ali, who is currently detained at the Defence Force headquarters in Chaguaramas, was officially charged yesterday by officers of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

The investigation was ordered by Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Suzette Martin and supervised by Snr Supt Edwards, Supt Morales, and ASP Lynch, along with senior officers of the SIU.
