The Con­gress of the Peo­ple (COP) has an­nounced that Prakash Ra­mad­har’s ap­point­ment as Po­lit­i­cal Leader has been of­fi­cial­ly rat­i­fied.

This fi­nal step in the con­fir­ma­tion process was for­mal­ized at a Na­tion­al Coun­cil meet­ing held last night at Man­dela Hall, Cen­tre of Ex­cel­lence.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­lease by the COP, "94 % of coun­cil mem­bers over­whelm­ing­ly sup­port­ed Mr. Ra­mad­har’s lead­er­ship, with 33 votes in favour, 1 against, and 1 ab­sten­tion."

The meet­ing was at­tend­ed by a com­bi­na­tion of vot­ing del­e­gates from the Na­tion­al Ex­ec­u­tive, var­i­ous con­stituen­cy ex­ec­u­tives, and oth­er key vot­ing bod­ies such as the Women’s Arm.

Among the at­ten­dees were for­mer Po­lit­i­cal Lead­ers Kirt Sin­nette and Car­olyn Seep­er­sad-Bachan, as well as for­mer Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment Dr. Rodger Samuel.

Fol­low­ing his rat­i­fi­ca­tion, Ra­mad­har reaf­firmed his com­mit­ment to the ideals and mis­sion of the COP say­ing, “This is not just a man­date to lead; it is a re­spon­si­bil­i­ty to unite and strength­en our move­ment for the ben­e­fit of the peo­ple of Trinidad and To­ba­go."

Ra­mad­har pledged “blood, sweat, and tears” to both the coun­try and the par­ty as the COP pre­pares for the up­com­ing Gen­er­al Elec­tions.

Ra­mad­har al­so em­pha­sized the im­por­tance of col­lab­o­ra­tion, sig­nalling his readi­ness to work with oth­ers to achieve com­mon in­ter­ests.

In clos­ing the COP added, "The Con­gress of the Peo­ple ex­press­es its heart­felt grat­i­tude to all mem­bers who par­tic­i­pat­ed in this piv­otal process and re­news its call for uni­ty and co­op­er­a­tion as the par­ty con­tin­ues to cham­pi­on its vi­sion of good gov­er­nance, in­clu­siv­i­ty, and na­tion­al progress."
