As widespread torrential rainfall battered the country this weekend, residents of Rio Claro complained of serious losses.

One resident Narisha Mohammed said she lost several items in flood waters. Mohammed recalled that around 6 am yesterday, there was an estimated two feet of water under her home at Poole Valley Trace, Guayaguayare Road. She said it was the highest level of floodwaters she has seen in quite some time.

Mohammes said she lost a fridge, washing machine, water pump and other items.

“I am presently asking and pleading with the relevant authority to please step up your game and do what is necessary so we would not have this problem again.”

While she thanked councillor David Law for his assistance,  she recalled that on previous occasions she had requested that the river be cleaned. “In the past, I have made numerous reports to ODPM. I went in on many occasions and talked about the debris that was in the river and the thickness of the grass and the mattress that is in the river to be cleaned to prevent this flood, and at this time, I am tired of it. I have a lot of losses this morning.”

Mayaro/Rio Claro Corporation chairman Raymond Cozier said there were numerous reports of flooding in various areas of Rio Claro including Bucket Corner, Poole Valley, Guayaguayare Road, Crapaud Flat and Rampaul Trace. Cozier, along with the Mayaro MP Nicholas Morris and other representatives, visited affected areas, and while the water has receded, they were monitoring the Mafeking Village for flooding.

During my consultation with Ms Brafit CEO Nicole Joseph-Chin, what was supposed to be a simple mastectomy bra fitting became something much deeper. Her thoughtful questions unlocked emotions I didn’t even realise I was holding in. She comforted, reassured, and helped me face the truth of what was coming. That bra wasn’t just clothing—it was the first real symbol of life after surgery.
