Police have recovered a television belonging to a colleague that was stolen during a recent burglary at Cypress Hills, San Fernando. The item was found in an abandoned apartment in the community on Monday.
Acting on information, officers of the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department (CID) went to an apartment at Cypress Hills shortly after 1.30 pm, where they searched a unit in Building 32 that appeared to be unoccupied.
During the search, officers discovered a 55-inch TCL television along with several other items.
The owner, a 42-year-old police constable who lives at Montgomery Drive, later identified the television as his.
He had reported that around 5 pm on March 1, he secured his home and left. However, upon returning around 10 am on March 25, he found the lock on the metal door broken.
Missing were a flatscreen television valued at $5,800, a humidifier, a blue Amazon Echo Dot, a grey Amazon Echo Dot, two pairs of LeBron James sneakers, a black kettle, and various pieces of police-issued equipment.
Police said several fingerprints were recovered from the scene and an arrest is imminent.
When Guardian Media visited the area yesterday, residents were reluctant to speak on camera but complained of a rise in break-ins in recent months. They called for increased police patrols in the community.
