A 70-year-old retired police officer was found dead inside his Princes Town home on Sunday, with his hands and feet bound together.
The deceased has been identified as Anthony Hanson, of Marcano Street West.
According to a police report, officers on mobile patrol received information around 1.30 pm and proceeded to Hanson’s home.
There, they interviewed Hanson’s son, who reported that he arrived at the house around 11.30 am and observed that the back door on the eastern side of the building was open.
Upon checking inside, he found the house ransacked and several items missing.
He called out to his father but received no response. Further checks led him to his father’s bedroom on the eastern side of the house, where he found him lying on his back on the floor, with his hands and feet bound in a hog-tied position. He was wearing short pants and was bare-backed.
The report stated that the son last saw his father alive on September 28.
Police cordoned off the scene and contacted the relevant authorities.
The District Medical Officer visited the scene, viewed the body and ordered its removal pending a post-mortem examination at the Forensic Science Centre.
Officers attached to Homicide Region Three and the Southern Division also visited the scene.
