Revellers and spectators turned out in large numbers flooding the main street in Sangre Grande for J’Ouvert. But before they were allowed to enter the main area to enjoy the revelry, they had to pass through security checks set up by officers of the T&T Police Service who were out in full force.
There were security checks at all entry points for J’Ouvert in the eastern town. Those who were found with bottles or other glass items were prevented from participating in J’Ouvert.
Revellers came to have fun, and they did, but in an orderly manner giving the police no excuse to lock down the J’Ouvert celebrations as was done in previous years.
The popular mud mas bands were few as the majority of revellers used colourful clothing. Groups of family and friends were seen having a good time.
Music was supplied by DJs who were on a big truck roving the streets or set up along the pavement on the main street.
Machel Montano and Destra Garcia's "Shake the Place" was on heavy rotation.
Police prevent revellers with bottles from going onto the main street for J’Ouvert celebrations.
