Ancel Roget has been re-elected unopposed as president general of the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) for a seventh consecutive term. Roget and his Rebel Slate will lead the union from 2025 to 2028.
A statement from the union yesterday stated that Roget and his team were unopposed on February 12, the nomination day, automatically securing his slate’s leadership for the upcoming term.
The OWTU’s elections were initially scheduled for March 10, but with no opposing candidates, the nominations effectively confirmed the new executive.
The union said this year’s nominations marked a significant milestone, with four women securing executive committee positions for the first time. It said there has also been increased representation from younger members.
The OWTU said among the key changes—Stefan Quashie, of T&TEC Tobago, has been appointed vice president, while Crystal Boland of National Petroleum Marketing Co takes over as executive trustee, replacing outgoing members Raymond Huggins and Marcus Cordner. The union said Johnathan Bowen, of T&TEC Port-of-Spain, has been promoted from executive trustee to vice president.
The OWTU said it remains committed to strengthening its advocacy for workers’ rights and defending its members and the wider working class with a renewed and more diverse leadership. —Otto Carrington
