Ancel Roget has been re-elected, unopposed, to the post of President General of the Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU).

In a media release, the OWTU says Roget’s 'Rebel' Slate will be in charge of the union for the period 2022 to 2025.

It says nominations, which were held yesterday, saw for the first time in OWTU’s 85-year history, women holding the positions of both First and Second Vice-Presidents.

Reesa Ramlogan-Jodha, who previously held the position of Vice-President, was elevated to the post of Second Vice-President.

Meanwhile, Sati Gajadhar Inniss, who previously held the position of Second Vice-President in the union, was elevated to position of First Vice-President.

The OWTU also reports that Additionally, as part of the new executive, two young persons were brought on to the executive to hold the positions of Trustee.

The union also notes the new executives who have replaced outgoing members Peter Burke and Chandrasain Ramsingh, are Comrade Janelle Thomas from the University of Trinidad and Tobago branch, and Comrade Jonathon Bowen from the T&TEC, Port of Spain branch.

“With a new executive that reflects the OWTU’s membership, which comprises women in senior positions and young persons, the union is effectively positioned to ensure its continued representation of the changing needs of the working class and hold fast to its mandate to defend its members and the people of Trinidad and Tobago at all costs,” the OWTU said.
