A Sangre Grande schoolboy was hospitalised but not charged after a confrontation with uniformed police officers on Monday afternoon.
Police said officers from the Sangre Grande charge room and traffic unit were on duty near a secondary school when they spoke with a group of students. During the exchange, the boy reportedly cursed the officers.
When officers attempted to detain him, a struggle ensued, and the teen eventually collapsed. He was taken to hospital, treated, and later discharged.
Sources said the boy was not charged at the time, though officers were considering laying charges via summons.
Police added that the increased presence of officers near schools is part of ongoing efforts to curb fights among students.
