After spending hours in captivity, a 43-year-old Santa Cruz man was rescued by police after being taken from his home at gunpoint yesterday morning.
The kidnappers reportedly contacted relatives and demanded a ransom of $200,000 for his safe release.
A report was made and officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), together with the Home Invasion Team (HIT) and others, were mobilised and initiated an enquiry into the incident.
Sources confirmed that the man was found in “generally good health,” at a house in Success Village, Laventille, around 3.30 pm yesterday.
No one was arrested in relation to the kidnapping.
Police said the rescue was led by officers of the AKU, the HIT, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Operations Team and the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).
It was co-ordinated by DCP Intelligence and Investigations Natasha George with assistance from ACP Richard Smith of the Criminal Division and Snr Supt Anderson Pariman of the AKU.
