A se­cu­ri­ty guard who claimed he was tied up dur­ing a rob­bery at his work­place in Cou­va has been ar­rest­ed af­ter po­lice un­cov­ered he al­leged­ly helped plan the heist.

Around 11:30 pm on Mon­day, po­lice re­spond­ed to a re­port of in­trud­ers at a Cam­den Road busi­ness. When they ar­rived, they found the guard hand­cuffed on the floor. He told of­fi­cers he was am­bushed and bound by ban­dits.

The men re­port­ed­ly stole lengths of cop­per wire val­ued at $90,000 and used a white Kia H-100 van to load the loot. The guard claimed the ban­dits then aban­doned the van on the com­pound and fled on foot.

Of­fi­cers searched the area and ar­rest­ed two sus­pects, aged 24 and 25. Fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion re­vealed the guard had al­leged­ly con­spired with them to car­ry out the rob­bery.

All three men were tak­en in­to cus­tody and are ex­pect­ed to be ques­tioned fur­ther to­day.
