A security guard who claimed he was tied up during a robbery at his workplace in Couva has been arrested after police uncovered he allegedly helped plan the heist.
Around 11:30 pm on Monday, police responded to a report of intruders at a Camden Road business. When they arrived, they found the guard handcuffed on the floor. He told officers he was ambushed and bound by bandits.
The men reportedly stole lengths of copper wire valued at $90,000 and used a white Kia H-100 van to load the loot. The guard claimed the bandits then abandoned the van on the compound and fled on foot.
Officers searched the area and arrested two suspects, aged 24 and 25. Further investigation revealed the guard had allegedly conspired with them to carry out the robbery.
All three men were taken into custody and are expected to be questioned further today.
