A 42-year-old se­cu­ri­ty guard is in sta­ble con­di­tion at the hos­pi­tal af­ter a gun­man en­tered his Pe­nal home and shot him sev­er­al times.

Po­lice said Jack­son Woods of Beck­les Street, Pe­nal, suf­fered three gun­shot wounds.

In­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 8.30 pm, Woods was in a bed­room at his home when a man en­tered through an open door­way. Woods said he heard sev­er­al ex­plo­sions and then felt a burn­ing sen­sa­tion in his body. Re­al­is­ing he was shot, Woods ran to Fras­er Street, where he sought help. He sus­tained gun­shot in­juries to his left hand, left side of his waist, and right foot.

He was tak­en to the Siparia Dis­trict Health Fa­cil­i­ty, where he was treat­ed. He was then trans­ferred to the Point Fortin Area Hos­pi­tal for fur­ther treat­ment.

Mean­while, in a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, po­lice ar­rest­ed a 22-year-old Point Fortin youth af­ter he was caught with an AR as­sault ri­fle and am­mu­ni­tion on Sun­day.

Po­lice said that of­fi­cers from the South West­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force were con­duct­ing an op­er­a­tion in Point Fortin be­tween 4 am and 8 am when they re­ceived in­for­ma­tion. They then went to Coun­try Trace, Fan­ny Vil­lage, where they saw the youth stand­ing on the road­way.

He had a bulge in his waist. When of­fi­cers searched, they found one AR-15 as­sault ri­fle and five rounds of 5.56 am­mu­ni­tion.

He was ar­rest­ed and tak­en to the Point Fortin Po­lice Sta­tion, where charges are ex­pect­ed to be laid.
