A 42-year-old security guard is in stable condition at the hospital after a gunman entered his Penal home and shot him several times.
Police said Jackson Woods of Beckles Street, Penal, suffered three gunshot wounds.
Investigators said around 8.30 pm, Woods was in a bedroom at his home when a man entered through an open doorway. Woods said he heard several explosions and then felt a burning sensation in his body. Realising he was shot, Woods ran to Fraser Street, where he sought help. He sustained gunshot injuries to his left hand, left side of his waist, and right foot.
He was taken to the Siparia District Health Facility, where he was treated. He was then transferred to the Point Fortin Area Hospital for further treatment.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police arrested a 22-year-old Point Fortin youth after he was caught with an AR assault rifle and ammunition on Sunday.
Police said that officers from the South Western Division Task Force were conducting an operation in Point Fortin between 4 am and 8 am when they received information. They then went to Country Trace, Fanny Village, where they saw the youth standing on the roadway.
He had a bulge in his waist. When officers searched, they found one AR-15 assault rifle and five rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
He was arrested and taken to the Point Fortin Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.
