Two female security officers on duty at the Palo Seco Secondary School were robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday morning.
Around 2.30 am a 39-year-old security officer was on duty on the school compound when two suspects armed with shotguns accosted her. They tied her up and robbed her of $2,000, a cellphone, her MTS work jacket and work shoes. The other security officer, age 38, was in a silver Toyota Aqua when the suspects tied her up and escaped in her car valued at $75,000.
The suspects also stole her purse, national identification card, bank card, $100 in cash, cellphone and other items. Officers from the Siparia CID, South Western Division Task Force, ERP Unit, Oropouche, Point Fortin and Southern Division mobile units responded but the assailants were not caught. PC Maharaj is investigating.
Penal house damaged in Easter Monday fire
Investigations are continuing into the cause of a house fire in Penal on Easter Monday.
Anjanie Boodoo, 65, was at church when she received word that her family’s property at Teemul Trace, Clarke Road, was on fire. She made a report to the police just before 2 pm.
The house, a 25 x 30 ply and galvanised structure, was not completely destroyed. Officers from the Penal Fire Station, headed by FSSO Mohammed, responded.
In another incident on Tuesday, around 12.30 am, an apartment at Joseph Avenue, John Jules Trace, Fyzabad, was partially damaged.
Around 11.30 pm, 35-year-old Levi Mead heard a crackling sound and, upon checking, saw his sister’s apartment on fire. He acted quickly and extinguished the blaze with a water hose. His sister was not home at the time of the fire. Officers from the Siparia Fire Station under FSSO Jankie visited the scene and Fyzabad police are investigating.
