Government Senator Laurence Hislop yesterday blamed the Farley Augustine-led Tobago House of Assembly (THA) for deteriorating roads across Tobago.
At a news conference hosted by the PNM Tobago Council, Hislop said road upgrades were among the promises made by the then Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) during its campaign in the 2021 THA elections. However, he claimed, the incumbents have not been honouring their words.
“This is the worst I have seen our road infrastructure from as far back as I can remember. We have been very proud of our road network over the years, but within the last 20 months we have facing a deteriorating road condition in Tobago,” he said.
“We were promised by this administration that there will be a significant thrust towards keeping our road network, or even improving it and there was boast of a smart to app to identify where the potholes were and you would have been able as a citizen to report a pothole.”
The senator, who is from Mason Hall, said Tobagonians want solutions not excuses. “Since this administration has come into power all we have been receiving, as it relates to deteriorating road conditions, are promises,” he said.
Hislop identified All-Field Crown Trace as one of the areas in serious need of repair. He appealed to the authorities to outline plans to bring relief to the affected residents.
