Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a break-in in­volv­ing a sit­ting sen­a­tor’s ve­hi­cle at a su­per­mar­ket carpark in Cas­cade on Mon­day af­ter­noon.

Sen­a­tor David Nakhid, 61, re­port­ed that he se­cured his black Mer­cedes-Benz at the carpark of Sim­ple Choice Mart around 4:15 pm and went in­side.

Around two min­utes lat­er, he re­turned to the ve­hi­cle af­ter re­ceiv­ing in­for­ma­tion and dis­cov­ered the rear right-side door glass had been smashed.

Fur­ther checks re­vealed that $10,000 in cash, a Chris­t­ian Dior per­fume val­ued at $2,600, a La­coste per­fume val­ued at $800, sev­er­al for­eign and lo­cal iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and bank cards, and keys to his home were miss­ing. The items were kept in a black Ar­mani back­pack.

Po­lice said he did not give any­one per­mis­sion to re­move the items.

Of­fi­cers vis­it­ed the scene and record­ed a re­port. The ve­hi­cle was processed, and in­ves­ti­ga­tors said work­able fin­ger­prints were re­cov­ered.

CCTV footage from the su­per­mar­ket has been re­quest­ed as in­ves­ti­ga­tions con­tin­ue.
