A 65-year-old man was ar­rest­ed af­ter po­lice re­cov­ered a firearm and a large quan­ti­ty of nar­cotics at his prop­er­ty dur­ing an an­ti-crime op­er­a­tion in the South­ern Di­vi­sion.

At around 4.20 pm on Sat­ur­day, Ag. Sgt. Seecha­ran, act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, led a team, in­clud­ing PC Mar­cus, PC Laloo, PC Adams, PC Khan, PC Ho­sein, and PC Ram­sar­rop, to an ad­dress at St. Clair Trace, Marac Vil­lage, Moru­ga.

On en­ter­ing the premis­es, PC Ho­sein re­port­ed­ly ob­served the pen­sion­er hold­ing a shot­gun. 

Of­fi­cers im­me­di­ate­ly seized the firearm and ar­rest­ed the man.

A search of the home un­cov­ered a cro­cus bag con­tain­ing two kilo­grammes of dried cannabis, which ex­ceed­ed the legal­ly per­mit­ted amount. 

The firearm and nar­cotics were tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion, where the sus­pect was al­so held in cus­tody. He was sub­se­quent­ly charged with pos­ses­sion of a firearm and is ex­pect­ed to face an ad­di­tion­al charge of pos­ses­sion of cannabis for the pur­pose of traf­fick­ing.
