A 65-year-old man was arrested after police recovered a firearm and a large quantity of narcotics at his property during an anti-crime operation in the Southern Division.
At around 4.20 pm on Saturday, Ag. Sgt. Seecharan, acting on intelligence, led a team, including PC Marcus, PC Laloo, PC Adams, PC Khan, PC Hosein, and PC Ramsarrop, to an address at St. Clair Trace, Marac Village, Moruga.
On entering the premises, PC Hosein reportedly observed the pensioner holding a shotgun.
Officers immediately seized the firearm and arrested the man.
A search of the home uncovered a crocus bag containing two kilogrammes of dried cannabis, which exceeded the legally permitted amount.
The firearm and narcotics were taken to the San Fernando Police Station, where the suspect was also held in custody. He was subsequently charged with possession of a firearm and is expected to face an additional charge of possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
PC Hosein is continuing enquiries.
