An acting assistant commissioner of the Inland Revenue Division has been charged for evading paying taxes.
Guardian Media understands 59-year-old Finbar Boland, of St James, was charged with 20 offences related to income tax returns he submitted for the 2014 to 2018 period.
Ten of the charges relate to allegedly false statements he made in relation to his income sources besides his monthly salary.
Boland was also slapped with five charges for depriving the division of approximately $750,000 in taxes through his alleged false declarations.
He also was charged with money laundering in relation to $30,000 in tax returns he collected for the period.
Boland was arrested last Friday at the Division's headquarters at the Government Campus in Port-of-Spain, following an investigation conducted by the Division's Criminal Tax Investigation Unit.
He was granted $200,000 bail after making his first court appearance before a High Court Master, on Monday morning.
