Tobago West MP Shamfa Cudjoe says 'fresh elections' should be called in Tobago in the wake of the recent “breakdown in morality and integrity” on the island.
Speaking on Saturday at the National Christmas Village and Craft Market, Queen’s Park Savannah, Cudjoe gave her views on the recent breakaway of members from the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP), further distancing their ties from PDP political leader, Watson Duke,
"I think it's really unfortunate because the people of Tobago have been bamboozled, hoodwinked. I think I can even go as far to say misused and abused because they were promised so much, and they were promised a new day and a new style of politics. And I think one year after we can see clearly that what was promised is not being delivered,” Cudjoe said.
Cudjoe echoed the PNM Tobago Council’s calls for a new election and that she believes that “this band of independents” don’t know what they 'stand for.'
"I think that they have wasted a whole year and Tobagonians need to be honest and frank and look at what is in the best interest of Tobagonians and hold the THA to account. We did not vote for that."
The Tobago West MP admitted that while she did not vote for the PDP, she believes that any chosen government should be working in the best interest of all citizens.
Cudjoe added that while “we know that they can host a good fete,” there are other issues that the THA should make a priority.
“The people of Tobago decided to make a change for better governance and for productivity and positivity and that which is good and Tobago and that has not happened. It's not happening.”
