Shumba James and another man were fatally shot by police during a shootout in St. Mary’s Village, Moruga, earlier today.
Guardian Media understands that around 10:30 am, James and another occupant of a vehicle exchanged gunfire with police officers. Both men died at the scene.
James, a resident of St. Mary’s, was among several people detained during the State of Emergency and had recently been released. He also was a former witness in the State’s unsuccessful prosecution of six police officers charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, Alana Duncan of San Fernando, and her friends Abigail Johnson and Kerron “Fingers” Eccles, both of St. Mary’s Village.
James had previously faced separate charges of home invasion and attempted murder.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) South Central, Wayne Mystar, confirmed the incident.
