As Siparia celebrated its first anniversary as a borough, Mayor Doodnath Mayrhoo urged criminals to put down their guns.
Speaking with reporters before taking the salute on High Street, Mayrhoo said Siparia was rich in culture and diversity as evidenced by the hundreds of people who lined the streets for the military parade. He said festivities will continue throughout the month and tribute will be paid to those who have helped to build the community.
Mayrhoo said he spent the past year planning major projects including the development of Irwin Park and upgrades to Siparia Market.
Although celebrations occurred amidst reports of more dengue cases, Mayrhoo assured that spraying had started.
Children from surrounding schools including St Brigids Girls RC, Siparia Boys RC, Iere High School as well as Siparia East and West Secondary lined the streets to see the parade. There was also a display of antique cars.
