Six new members have been appointed to the Industrial Court.
The new members recently received their instruments of appointment from the President of the
Industrial Court Deborah Thomas-Felix who welcomed them to the court.
They were also greeted by the chairman of the Essential Services Division Lawrence
Achong who was reappointed as chairman and the court’s executive.
The new members of the court are Wendy Ali, Indra Rampersad-Suite, Angela Hamel-Smith, Elizabeth Solomon, Vincent Cabrera and Nizam Khan, who was reappointed after serving as a magistrate
Ali, an attorney, has been in corporate law and senior management for 25
years.
Prior to joining the court she was the chief executive officer at the North West Regional Health Authority. She has served on the executive of several State bodies including the National Insurance Property Development Company Limited (NIPDEC) and the National Insurance Board of T&T.She will preside in the Essential Services Division.
Rampersad-Suite is lawyer and chartered accountant. She has served as State Counsel II in the Ministry of Finance, Inland Revenue Division since 2012 and has held several leadership positions over her 24-year career at the ministry.
She will preside in the General Services Division.
Hamel-Smith has over 35experience in the field of human resources and industrial relations. She was the Group Manager, Human Resource at Massy Limited for 20 and was also a member of the Industrial Relations Committee of the T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
She served on several boards including the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, the Statutory Service Commission and the Government Human Resources Services Company.
She will preside in the the General Services Division.
Solomon is a certified mediator. Prior to joining the Industrial Court she served as the Executive Director at the Dispute Resolution Centre.
She is a member of the board of the Mediation Board of T&T, a T&T representative for the Network of Women Mediators Across the Commonwealth and member of the Unyoke Foundation for South Africa Peace Mediators Network.
Solomon will also take up duties in the General Services Division.
Cabrera has over 43 years experience in industrial relations.
Prior to his appointment as a member of the court, he served as president of the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union, a position he has held for 34 years, Labour Representative of the National Tripartite Advisory Council (NTAC), Labour Representative of the Industrial Relations Advisory Committee, Labour Representative of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) 144 Tripartite Committee and general secretary of the National Trade Union Centre of T&T.
He is an adjunct lecturer at the Cipriani College of Labour and Co-operative Studies.
Cabrera will preside in the General Services Division.
Khan, an attorney who served as a magistrate in the Magistracy/ Judiciary, has been reappointed to serve for another term.
