A soldier, who was shot by armed men during a robbery at his home in Arima on Tuesday, remains hospitalised in a stable condition up to yesterday.
Police said the 24 year old, who is assigned to Camp Cumuto, was shot in the left thigh, while his 50-year-old father was shot in the left knee during the incident at Punette Avenue, Pinto, Arima.
The soldier reportedly awoke around 5.40 am on November 4 to prepare for work and noticed his front gate open.
As he walked out of the back door on his way to the front of the house, he was confronted by two masked men who forced him back inside.
The suspects ordered the soldier and his father to lie on the floor, whilst demanding cash and valuables.
Dissatisfied, one of the suspects pulled a gun from his waist and fired two shots in the victims’ direction, hitting both men.
The suspects later fled the house on foot.
The soldier and his father raised an alarm, and were taken to the Arima Hospital, where they were treated and remain in a stable condition.
Two spent 9 mm shell casings were recovered at the scene.
