A sol­dier, who was shot by armed men dur­ing a rob­bery at his home in Ari­ma on Tues­day, re­mains hos­pi­talised in a sta­ble con­di­tion up to yes­ter­day.

Po­lice said the 24 year old, who is as­signed to Camp Cu­mu­to, was shot in the left thigh, while his 50-year-old fa­ther was shot in the left knee dur­ing the in­ci­dent at Punette Av­enue, Pin­to, Ari­ma.

The sol­dier re­port­ed­ly awoke around 5.40 am on No­vem­ber 4 to pre­pare for work and no­ticed his front gate open.

As he walked out of the back door on his way to the front of the house, he was con­front­ed by two masked men who forced him back in­side.

The sus­pects or­dered the sol­dier and his fa­ther to lie on the floor, whilst de­mand­ing cash and valu­ables.

Dis­sat­is­fied, one of the sus­pects pulled a gun from his waist and fired two shots in the vic­tims’ di­rec­tion, hit­ting both men.

The sus­pects lat­er fled the house on foot.

The sol­dier and his fa­ther raised an alarm, and were tak­en to the Ari­ma Hos­pi­tal, where they were treat­ed and re­main in a sta­ble con­di­tion.

Two spent 9 mm shell cas­ings were re­cov­ered at the scene.
