Heartbroken over his son’s murder, a South Oropouche father is hoping a police investigation will uncover why his son was killed and lead to the arrest of those responsible.
An emotional Hardeo Bunsee spoke with Guardian Media yesterday at his Warden Road home, where his son, Dillon Bunsee, was fatally shot by a lone gunman on Thursday night.
Bunsee worked as a straightener and painter at the family’s auto repair garage.
According to reports, Bunsee and his 24-year-old girlfriend had returned home earlier that day and were arguing loudly in the garage area. Shortly after 11 pm, an assailant approached the garage and fired several shots at Bunsee. Neither his girlfriend nor two friends, who were also in the garage, were injured.
Bunsee’s father said he was awakened by his vehicle’s alarm. As he came outside, one of his son’s friends told him that Dillon had been shot.
He said his son had been shot in the neck and head and was bleeding on the ground.
The father also expressed dissatisfaction with what he believed was a lack of urgency by attendants when they arrived at the hospital.
“At casualty, they were moving like someone came for a Panadol for a headache,” he said.
Describing his son, a father of one, as a hardworking man, he said the family was devastated by his death and was hoping investigators would uncover the reason for the killing and bring those responsible to justice.
“I am not accustomed to this kind of incident. It shocking and sad. Only two sons I have. As a parent, I would like justice. His killer can’t just be outside free and running. He was a loving, nice person to his family,” the father lamented.
Describing the murder as shocking, neighbours said they heard gunshots on Thursday night but only learned of Bunsee’s death the following morning.
A neighbour recalled, “I heard Dillon and his girlfriend quarrelling in the road. A few minutes later, I heard rapid gunfire. We were accustomed to hearing them quarrelling and cussing.”
Crime scene investigators recovered six 9mm spent shell casings from the scene. Officers of the Region Three Homicide Bureau of Investigations are continuing enquiries.
