Forty-six-year-old Ekundayo Perpignac aka ‘Shu Shu’ has been charged with the murder of Matthew John and shooting with intent at another man which occurred on August 25th.
Perpignac of St James who is expected to appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate today was also charged with Possession of a Firearm with Intent and Possession of Ammunition with Intent.
He was charged following advice received from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, George Busby yesterday.
According to police reports, John, 36, of Upper Bournes Road, St. James, was in the driveway of his home with a male companion when they were approached by two gunmen who shot in their direction. The men were hit about their bodies, while the assailants made their escape.
John was pronounced dead at the St. James Medical Facility, while his friend was transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the incident resulted in the suspect being arrested on September 6th by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One. Investigations were supervised by ASP Simon and Insps. Lynch and Mongroo, all of HBI Region One, with the assistance of officers of the Western Division.
Perpignac, was charged with the offences by WPC Frederick, also of HBI Region One, on September 13th.
