St James man killed for telling gunman to stop shooting in the air

Aside from the eight mur­ders re­port­ed yes­ter­day, homi­cide of­fi­cers were al­so kept busy in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mur­der of a man in St James, who was shot for telling a gun­man to stop shoot­ing in­to the air in the neigh­bour­hood.

Po­lice said the in­ci­dent was not con­nect­ed in any way to the dead­ly gun vi­o­lence in east Trinidad.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, 29-year-old Ja­mal Jones of Aboud Cir­cu­lar Road, St James, was shot mul­ti­ple times.

Of­fi­cers said around 12.45 pm yes­ter­day, Jones and some of his fam­i­ly mem­bers, in­clud­ing his wife and 15-year-old broth­er, were in­side of their garage when they saw a man with a firearm shoot­ing in the air.

Jones ap­proached the sus­pect and told him to stop. In­stead, the gun­man point­ed the gun at Jones, opened fire on him, hit­ting him about his body.

The man then fled.

Jones’ fam­i­ly rushed him to the St James In­fir­mary for med­ical treat­ment.

How­ev­er, po­lice said just af­ter 1 pm Jones suc­cumbed to the gun­shot in­juries while un­der­go­ing emer­gency med­ical care.

Po­lice are now search­ing for the armed killer.
