Aside from the eight murders reported yesterday, homicide officers were also kept busy investigating the murder of a man in St James, who was shot for telling a gunman to stop shooting into the air in the neighbourhood.
Police said the incident was not connected in any way to the deadly gun violence in east Trinidad.
According to police, 29-year-old Jamal Jones of Aboud Circular Road, St James, was shot multiple times.
Officers said around 12.45 pm yesterday, Jones and some of his family members, including his wife and 15-year-old brother, were inside of their garage when they saw a man with a firearm shooting in the air.
Jones approached the suspect and told him to stop. Instead, the gunman pointed the gun at Jones, opened fire on him, hitting him about his body.
The man then fled.
Jones’ family rushed him to the St James Infirmary for medical treatment.
However, police said just after 1 pm Jones succumbed to the gunshot injuries while undergoing emergency medical care.
Police are now searching for the armed killer.
