A Ste Madeleine man who was recently released from prison was gunned down in front of his home on Saturday night.
Kwame Sandiford, 31, died on the scene.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that his murder was drug-related.
His relatives said that around 8.50 pm about 15 minutes after they saw Sandiford standing in front of his home at George Street they heard several loud explosions.
When they ran outside they saw Sandiford lying on the road near a drain. He was bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said he was a known offender and was released from Remand Yard about two months ago after securing bail on a robbery charge.
Investigators recovered seven 9mm spent shells and two deformed projectiles on the scene.
Sandiford who was unemployed celebrated his birthday a few days ago on July 10.
His relatives declined to comment yesterday.
However, on her Facebook page, his mother Suzanne Sandiford stated, “He was not a perfect child but he was mine. RIP.”
An autopsy is expected to be done today at the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain.
Ste Madeleine police and Homicide Bureau Region 3 investigators visited the scene.
Investigations are continuing.
