Po­lice are search­ing for a gun­man who shot a Ste Madeleine man in the chest on New Year’s Day.

Around 6.15 pm, Christo­pher Kevin Charles, 36, of Man­a­ham­bre Road, Ste Madeleine, was at Co­quette Street when a gold Nis­san Almera trav­el­ling west along Man­a­ham­bre Road turned on­to Co­quette Street.

A man in the rear pas­sen­ger seat of the car point­ed a gun at Charles and fired one shot at close range, hit­ting him in the right side of his chest.

Charles was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal, where he re­mains in sta­ble con­di­tion.

Of­fi­cers, led by W/Cpl Suther­land of the Ste Madeleine CID, vis­it­ed the scene and in­ter­viewed wit­ness­es.

In­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing.
