Close to 30 boys were given free haircuts at the S&S chain of supermarkets in Rio Claro and Mayaro in a project aimed to assist the students back to school on Tuesday..
At the supermarket’s branch at Guayaguayare, Mayaro, on Thursday, more than 12 students had their hair cut done free by barbers who are employees of the grocery, but volunteered to offer their services free to primary and secondary school students.
A similar exercise took place on Wednesday at the Rio Claro outlet.
Project manager of S&S Supermarket Riad Rampart said the initiative was born through the young men employed at the supermarket with the support of the company’s directors. Rampart said it is one of the several projects earmarked for 2022.
The company’s project administrator Dana Persad said the project also came about as a result of the pandemic which was responsible for many parents being out of a job and knowing that they might be in some financial difficulties.
She said the objective is not only to show some concern for both parents and students but to motivate and make children look good for their first day at school.
She said while parents shopped, the children were taken to a nearby building to have their hair cut with the permission of parents.
Their next project is a beach clean up.
